What is Baltic amber and how does it work?
Baltic amber is the fossilised tree resin of ancient conifer trees that grew in the Baltic region 40-60 million years ago. Baltic amber has been documented throughout the ages for its purportedly extraordinary health properties as far back as the Ancient Greeks and the works of Hippocrates.
When worn against the skin, Baltic Amber is believed to work by releasing natural oils onto the skin that are absorbed into the bloodstream. In Germany and other European countries Baltic amber is sold in pharmacies and health stores. It is also very popular here in Australia, with babies commonly wearing necklaces/bracelets during their teething period.
Please keep in mind that while there is overwhelming historical and anecdotal evidence, within Australia Baltic amber has not been classified as a theraupetic product so to comply with TGA we make no therapeutic claims.
Does it need to be amber from the Baltic region?
The uniqueness of Baltic amber lies in its historical significance and purported healing properties, making it distinct from amber sourced from other regions. Baltic amber, specifically from the area around the Baltic Sea, has been celebrated for its health benefits since ancient times. Renowned physicians like Hippocrates, the father of medicine, documented its therapeutic qualities as far back as 400 B.C.
Baltic amber contains a higher concentration of succinic acid compared to other types of amber — this compound has been traditionally linked to its reputed analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Scientific studies have shown that Baltic amber’s succinic acid content is as high as 8%, which is considerably more than in most other ambers, which contain far less than 3%. While amber from other regions can be aesthetically pleasing and valuable, they have not held the same historical prominence or traditional value as Baltic amber.
How is your amber guaranteed to be genuine?
Our amber is famous for being not just authentic Baltic amber, but also for the thousands of detailed reviews (spanning more than a decade) describing how much our amber products have helped customers and their children. Baltic amber purchased from us is guaranteed to come from the Baltic mine in Kaliningrad by the certification company AGbA® Amber. Each item of jewellery comes with a unique and traceable AGbA® authenticity number (that you can look up after purchase). We are an AGbA® certified retailer (www.agbaamber.com/retailers.htm). Do different amber colours have different healing properties?
Historically, different colours of Baltic amber have not been specifically associated with varying levels of healing effectiveness. Baltic amber’s purported healing benefits are attributed to the presence of succinic acid, which is found in all types of Baltic amber, regardless of colour, and it is this succinic acid that many believe is responsible for amber’s traditional association with anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and immune-supporting properties.
However, for the greatest benefit we do strongly recommend raw/untreated amber that has not gone through the cooking and polishing process.
Do you have any adult necklaces in a longer length like 60cm or 90cm?
While our adult necklaces are made by our artisans to be around 46cm, we do offer matching colour extensions (around 14cm) that can be connected together with the necklace to form one longer necklace (approximately 60cm, 24 inches). The clasps match the colour of the amber so it looks like one long necklace. Additionally, if you want a necklace even longer than 60cm, you can connect an adult necklace with an adult bracelet (19-21cm) of a matching colour, or even another adult necklace (46cm) which would create a necklace approximately 90cm (35 inches) long. The inter-connecting clasps provide considerable flexibility if you need a longer necklace. Contact us, and we can assist you with organizing the colours and items you need to purchase.
Do you sell necklace and bracelet sets in matching colours?
Yes, most of our amber colours are available in every size, for babies and adults. We have such a large range of amber that you will need to purchase the necklaces and bracelets from separate listings even if you are buying a set, and when we are packing your amber we will ensure to match the shades as closely as possible.
Do you combine postage?
Yes of course, we offer combined postage at no additional cost. No matter how many items you purchase, you’ll only pay the base postage price once for your entire order.
Can I come and pick up, if I live locally?
We are an online business so we unfortunately do not have anywhere for you to come to have a look and pick-up (that is one of the ways that we can keep prices low). We are very sorry about that, but if you are on the Gold Coast or nearby, you’ll receive your parcel quickly as we ship within 24 hours of payment. We also strive to provide high-quality professional photographs that we take ourselves so you can see clearly what you are purchasing.
We also offer express post which will allow you to receive your amber within 48 hours from purchase almost anywhere in Australia.
